Doesnt retain game state

While playing the game, leaving the app (running in background), and coming back takes you back to the home screen instead of the game youre in (like Words With Friends does quite well).

Why?!? Just take me back to my game and let me decide if I want to leave it before finishing my play. Ridiculous, and I see no reason for it.
